Living and working in Tyrol - Fiss in winter

Working in a ski resort: should you have done it once in your life?

With its 1053 inhabitants, the village of Fiss is very manageable. But anyone thinking of boredom is very much mistaken. If you decide to live and work in Tyrol, or more precisely in Fiss, you have to be prepared for lots of action, nature experiences and partying.

Idyllic winter in Fiss

Fiss lies at 1,438 metres above sea level – which means that when autumn is still grey, rainy and foggy in the cities, the first snow is already falling up here in Winter Wonderland.

And then, when the sun comes out from behind the first snow clouds and illuminates the incredibly beautiful mountain panorama, it’s hard not to fall under the winter spell of the idyllic mountain village of Fiss.

-> You definitely have to experience this once in your life.

But what’s it like when you’re not just here on holiday, but work and live in the ski resort?

-> Pretty cool! The members of the SHF crew think so and have summarised a few “must do’s” for everyone, who works and lives in Fiss.

Skiing & Après Ski:

Skiing or snowboarding in the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region is particularly unique. The ski area is sooooo huge and has something to offer for all skill levels. The convenient thing is that the gondolas are within walking distance. You don’t have to wait for a crowded bus here. The price for a day or season ticket is also great for employees.

At the Schlosshotel Fiss, we even have employees who can be found on the piste every day (before or after work).
Of course, there are also SHF crew members who have never been on the piste but know the après-ski bars in the region inside out. The Hexenalm in Fiss and the Patschi in Serfaus are popular venues for this. Later in the evening, you can meet up at Hackl’s Keller (Fiss), the Sportsbar (Fiss) or the George (Serfaus).

Sitting together in a cosy atmosphere

If you just want to have a cosy drink in the evening after work in Tyrol, you can meet up at Gusto Momente, Marende, Weinkapelle or the sports bar. The latter bar is the closest to the SHF Crew Homes and has a pool table, table football and dartboard.

Winter hiking and chilling in the sun:

To clear your head, top up on vitamin D and enjoy nature, it’s a good idea to go for a walk and sit in the sun during the Zimmerstunde. Around the Wolfsee lake or along the panoramic path from the Möseralm, you will find countless sun loungers and places to recharge your batteries. The Frommes Alp with its sun terrace is also a highly recommended address: you can reach the alp on foot via an easily accessible winter hiking trail. Walking time approx. 1 hour from Fiss.

What else?

Nightflow: Nightflow takes place every Tuesday in Fiss on the Möseralm. The impressive evening show with performance rides by the ski school, freestyle interludes, fireworks and performances by various artists can be visited free of charge with the employee ID card and is an entertaining change from everyday working life in Fiss.

Toboggan run: You can hire a toboggan directly from us at the Schlosshotel Fiss and whizz down the three metre wide and four kilometre long toboggan run. Take the red gondola (Schönjochbahn) and get off at the middle station, where the race can begin. We highly recommend that you wear a helmet!
